These help prevent the sun from streaming through the natural openings in the hat’s weave. The crown insert also serves to help hold the shape of the crown’s pinch. Other beneficial features include a wider brim than usual and Teflon treating to help protect the hat in a light drizzle. Vent holes in the crown aid in keeping the crown from overheating.
